Helping families with children
receiving paediatric palliative care
to enhance quality of life
for the family as a whole

Our Mission

We outline our mission and objectives below, however, please keep in mind the Foundation, as a new organisation, currently has limited funds and our work is in a developmental phase.

Our mission
To enhance quality of life for families with children receiving paediatric palliative care or families recently bereaved.

Our objectives

We seek to achieve our mission by:

Þ Directly assisting families caring for a child with a life-limiting condition through the stages of palliative care or end-of-life care, or during the first year of bereavement.

Þ Providing financial assistance for costs associated with caring for a child in palliative care or during early bereavement, where a family has no other avenue for seeking financial help.

Þ Identifying, advocating or creating a service if one does not currently exist in a form which meets the needs of families of children receiving palliative care or families bereaved following the death of a child.

Þ Directing the above assistance towards activities which seek to enhance quality of life for the family as a whole.

Our goals

By supporting families of children receiving palliative care and families recently bereaved, KessiaCare Foundation hopes to:

Þ Relieve distress and suffering placed on families by reducing financial pressures and assisting with practical support.

Þ Nurture the family by allowing parents more time and energy to focus on the whole family.

Þ Empower parents by supporting them in their role as primary care giver and allowing parents to remain more in control of their family’s circumstances.

Þ Create choice by making possible a broader range of options in caring for a child requiring palliative care, for example, by assisting with childcare costs for siblings.

Þ Foster hope by reducing burden and stress placed on parents, and increasing their capacity to guide their family through the journey ahead.
