MORNING HAS BROKEN
Cat Stevens and Eleanor Farjeon

FRIENDS
Michael W Smith

Morning has broken
like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken
like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing
Fresh from the world

Sweet the rain’s new fall
Sunlit form heaven
Like the first dewfall
On the first grass
Praise for the sweetness
Of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness
Where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight
Mine is the morning
Born of the one light
Eden saw play
Praise with elation
Praise every morning
God’s recreation
Of the new day

Angel of morning
Laughing and dancing
Sharing your lovelight
Shining apart
Tears are like diamonds
Shimmering gleaming
His tender mercies
You in our hearts

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can’t believe the hopes he’s granted
Though a chapter in our life is through

But we’ll keep you close as always
It won’t even seem you’ve gone
Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord’s the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
Cause the welcome will not end
Though it’s hard to let you go
In the Father’s hands we know
That a lifetime’s not too long
To live as friends

With the faith and love God’s given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray that the joy you’ll live in
Is the strength that you have shown

But we’ll keep you close as always
It won’t even seem you’ve gone
Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

Chorus

First reading - Kate Pettit

All that is hidden, all that is plain, I have come to know,
instructed by Wisdom who designed them all.

She is a breath of the power of God,
Pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty;
Hence nothing impure can find a way into her.

She is a reflection of the eternal light,
Untarnished mirror of God's active power,
Image of his goodness.

This is the word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm - Fiona Chang and Mirko Kesak

Response: I will go to the dwelling of God, to the
wonderful house of my Father.

Bone: Like the deer that yearns
For running streams
So my soul is yearning
For you, my God. <Response>

Mirko: These things I will remember
As I pour out my soul;
How I would lead the rejoicing crowd
Into the house of God,
Amid cries of gladness and thanksgiving,
The throng wild with joy. <Response>

Bone: How gracious is the Lord, and just;
Our God has compassion.
The Lord protects the simple hearts;
I was helpless so he saved me. <Response>

Mirko: Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me
All the days of my life.
In the Lord's own house shall I dwell
For ever and ever. <Response>

Second reading - Paul McConnell

Do not let your hearts be troubled
Trust in God still, and trust in me.
There are many rooms in my Father's house;
If there were not, I should have told you.
I am going now to prepare a place for you,
And after I have gone and prepared you a place,
I shall return to take you with me;
So that where I am
You may be too.
You know the way to the place where I am going.

This is the word of the Lord.

Prayers of the Faithful

ANN: We pray in thanksgiving for Kessia, beloved child of Denise and Geoff, precious sister of Joshua. We pray in thanksgiving for her life and the love and joy she has brought her family. The courage she displayed throughout her illness and the peacefulness of her death has touched each of us. Kessia is at peace now, she is with her God. Lord hear us.

LOUISE: God is love. We come into the world from this love and we leave the world to return to it. Our journey in this world is one of discovering God’s love in the passions and great loves that bring a deep purpose to our life. These passions create a garden of love and meaning.

Geoff and Denise you have lost your great love, Kessia, and the landscape of your garden has changed. Your garden is ravaged by her loss. We pray for you both, that slowly your hearts will heal and that your garden of love and meaning will grow once again. Lord hear us.

DAVE: We pray for you Geoff and Denise. Your courage and beauty has moved us deeply in the way you have embraced the loss of Kessia. We pray for you in your journey of healing and we hold your courage and beauty in our hearts. We pray that you know how deeply you are loved by your family, your friends and your God. Lord hear us.

ANN: We pray for Joshua. We pray in thanksgiving for his tender love of Kessia and his courage as he begins to mourn her loss. Josh will miss his sister deeply. We pray for him as he grows, that he will know how much he is loved and cherished by his parents, family and friends. Lord hear us.

ANDREW: We pray for the Chang and McConnell families as they too, mourn the loss of Kessia. In particular, we think of Kessia's Uncle Ed, Aunty Chris and cousins Caleb and Ethan in Canada, as well as the many friends and family members who cannot be with us today. We pray in thanksgiving for their deep love and unfailing support over the past months . We pray for each family as they journey together. Lord hear us.

LOUISE: We pray for all those here who are suffering because of the loss of loved ones. We pray that they would know love and comfort in their time of mourning. We pray that the loss of Kessia would be a time to honour their memory. Lord hear us.
